Everyday Fiction is a new artwork by artist Alison Ballard, commissioned by Metal and supported by Arts Council England.

An audio work derived from the artist’s time in-residence at Chalkwell Hall in 2016, exploring the ambiguities between reality and fiction that we encounter in everyday life. Real events and imagined lives are brought together in a heart-breaking story of loss, grief, and mental illness.

The app is geo-located in Chalkwell Park, Southend-on-Sea, Essex, UK so you’ll have to physically go there if you want to experience it. 5 chapters can be listened to in different locations within the park, forging a relationship between the story, the location, and your presence within it. A map within the app will show you where each chapter can be found. Walk into the GPS zones and audio will automatically play.

Users will need to switch on their GPS / location services before starting. The app is best experienced wearing headphones.

Approximate time: 30 minutes.
